Health & Safety

At Miller Contractors, health and safety is at the core of everything we do. As a civil engineering contractor operating across South Wales, we are committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees, clients, subcontractors, and the public. We maintain high standards of safety management to ensure every project is delivered responsibly, compliantly, and without compromise.

Our Commitment

We actively promote a positive safety culture throughout our workforce and supply chain. Our approach is based on proactive risk management, continuous improvement, and compliance with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations.

Our objectives are to:

  • Prevent accidents, incidents, and occupational ill health

  • Protect employees, site visitors, and members of the public

  • Maintain safe systems of work on all projects

  • Deliver projects efficiently while prioritising wellbeing

Qualified & Competent Management

We ensure our project leadership teams are fully qualified and competent to manage safety on site:

  • All Contracts Managers hold SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) qualifications

  • All Site Supervisors hold SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) qualifications

  • Temporary Works Coordinator qualifications are held within the business, ensuring all temporary works are properly planned, designed, checked, and implemented

This ensures that every site is managed by experienced professionals with a strong understanding of health and safety best practice.

Temporary Works Management

Temporary works play a critical role in civil engineering projects. Our qualified Temporary Works Coordinators oversee the planning, approval, and monitoring of all temporary works activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and eliminating unnecessary risk.

This includes:

  • Design checks and approvals

  • Method statement reviews

  • On-site inspections

  • Permit and control procedures

Risk Assessment & Method Statements

Before any work begins, we carry out thorough risk assessments and prepare detailed method statements (RAMS). These are communicated clearly to all operatives through site inductions and regular toolbox talks.

We continually review and update our procedures to reflect changing site conditions and evolving project requirements.

Training & Continuous Improvement

We invest in ongoing training and development to ensure our workforce remains competent, informed, and up to date with current regulations and industry best practice. Regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and refresher training help maintain high safety standards across all projects.

Accreditation & Compliance

We are proud to hold Constructionline Gold accreditation, demonstrating our commitment to compliance, financial stability, quality management, and health and safety excellence. This accreditation provides our clients with confidence that we meet nationally recognised industry standards.

Environmental & Public Safety Responsibility

In addition to workforce safety, we take our environmental and community responsibilities seriously. We implement robust site controls to minimise disruption, protect the surrounding environment, and ensure public safety around live construction areas.

Our Promise

We believe that safe sites are productive sites. By maintaining strong leadership, qualified supervision, and proven safety systems, we deliver civil engineering projects across South Wales that meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
